“Over here...I think I found our second life sign!”
Keith opened his eyes. He couldn’t move his hand, or his other arm. Something was on top of him, and he hurt all over. He was very scared. What had just happened? He had been crying for quite some time, but he was so tired…he thought if he closed his eyes, he might get some rest, and feel better. And maybe if he felt better…would *that* make his Mommy and Daddy realize where he was? His mommy was happy when he was happy. She could sense his feelings. Maybe it was because he was scared that she couldn’t find him. When he first woke up, he was in so much pain that his attempts to call for his Mommy and Daddy had failed completely. He had fallen asleep again, and relived the entire crash. The bright light, his Daddy’s scream, and the mean men who yelled. And then it had all disappeared. Now, all he really remembered was the bright light, and his Daddy screaming. He didn’t remember anything else…
Now there was some lady with red hair and a red Starfleet uniform, like his Mommy’s and Daddy’s…he could see her through a hole in the thing on top of him. He continued to whimper in pain, hoping maybe she could hear him and would make it stop hurting.
Suddenly, the big thing on top of him was lifted off, and the lady with red hair threw it away from him. He now could see two ladies—one with blonde hair and a blue Starfleet uniform, like his Daddy’s.
the one with blonde hair told him kindly. She turned to the lady with the red hair.
“Lieutenant, I'm going to go ahead and beam up with him...if you need me back down here let me know...”
The lady with red hair nodded, and turned back to Keith.
“You’ll be okay. Don’t worry,”
she told him.
She must have been very, very strong, Keith reflected, to be able to lift up that very big thing that was on top of him. And now he was going to be okay, she said. Blue shimmering light engulfed him, and the next thing he knew the smell of plants and dirt was gone, replaced by another smell…the starship smell. He was on a starship. He still hurt all over, but the lady with the blonde hair spoke kindly to him, and put something up against his neck. As his eyes closed and the pain went away, he thought about what the lady with the red hair had said. He was going to be okay.
